The Department of Political Science at Sri Aurobindo College has been an integral part of the institution ever since its inception in 1972. With a team of sincere, dedicated, and highly qualified faculty members possessing rich teaching and research experience, the department provides students with in-depth knowledge of the discipline and its multifaceted dimensions.
The curriculum covers a wide range of papers that not only provide a solid academic foundation but also prepare students for higher studies and diverse professional careers in fields such as the Civil Services (IAS and other allied services), Law, Journalism, Management, and International Relations. In addition, the department regularly organizes seminars, workshops, and discussions on political and social issues, fostering a culture of debate, dialogue, and critical engagement.
Several faculty members are actively engaged in research projects at the university, national, and international levels, further enriching the academic environment. The department also extends its expertise beyond classrooms by offering free legal advice to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), reflecting its commitment to community service and inclusivity.

It has also developed meaningful linkages with research institutions, organizations, and public bodies across India, creating interactive platforms that inspire students to cultivate long-term research interests.

The Department of Political Science is committed to fostering holistic capacity building among students by integrating academic learning with experiential exposure. The teaching–learning process emphasizes not only the acquisition of theoretical knowledge but also the development of analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Students are encouraged to engage with contemporary political debates, governance issues, and global challenges through a variety of interactive academic platforms.
The department focuses on nurturing leadership qualities, research aptitude, and professional competencies to prepare students for diverse career paths such as civil services, law, media, public administration, and academia. By providing an environment that values inclusivity, dialogue, and innovation, the department ensures that students are equipped with both intellectual depth and practical understanding to meet the demands of a dynamic world.

Through visits to courts, police stations, and museums, the department ensures that students complement theoretical knowledge with real-world experience.
National seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions with scholars expose students to contemporary debates and train them in research-based learning.
Activities like the Youth Parliament encourage participatory learning, democratic values, and informed citizenship among students.
