Code of Professional Ethics

Students and Their Responsibilities

At Sri Aurobindo College, students are expected to uphold discipline, respect, and integrity in all aspects of academic and campus life. The following responsibilities are to be observed:

  • Attend all classes, tutorials, and practicals as per the allotted timetable and scheduled timings.
  • Submit assignments, projects, and assessments on time, following the instructions given by faculty members.
  • Interact with teaching and non-teaching staff respectfully and courteously.
  • Explore and actively participate in the various academic, cultural, and co-curricular opportunities provided by the College to enhance learning and personal growth.
  • Use College facilities such as the library, canteen, sports grounds, and student common areas responsibly, without disturbing the discipline and decorum of the campus.
  • Foster a spirit of active learning and holistic engagement during lectures, tutorials, and other academic forums.
  • Respect and appreciate the diversity of caste, gender, religion, region, language, and ideas within the College community.
  • Remember that while representing the College in any event or programme, students are ambassadors of its values and ethos. Their conduct, both on and off campus, reflects on the institution.
  • Carry valid College Identity Cards at all times. In case of loss or damage, a duplicate card may be issued on written application with the prescribed fee, and in case of loss, after submitting a copy of the FIR lodged with the police.
  • Regularly check notices displayed on College notice boards, official emails, and the College website.
  • Submit, within stipulated timelines, any information sought by the College through email or other communication channels.
  • Help maintain cleanliness across the campus by disposing of waste responsibly, following the Color-Coded Waste Disposal Scheme (Green: Biodegradable, Blue: Non-Biodegradable).
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Library, Hostel, Computer Centre, Sports Complex, and other College facilities.
  • Immediately report any undesirable or suspicious activity on campus to the appropriate College authorities.
  • Deposit any lost-and-found items at the Administrative Office.
  • Maintain cordial and supportive relations with fellow students, promoting harmony and cooperation within the student community.
  • Play sports only in the designated playgrounds or relevant spaces provided for the same.
  • Refrain from creating disturbance near classrooms when teaching is in progress.
  • Strictly avoid misbehaviour with faculty, staff, or peers, whether in person or through electronic channels.
  • Do not remove notices from the boards, shift College equipment, or use gadgets/furniture without prior approval from the competent authority.
  • Avoid defacing, mishandling, or vandalizing College property under any circumstances.
  • Strictly refrain from smoking, consuming liquor, narcotics, tobacco, intoxicants, or any prohibited substances on campus. These are punishable offences.
  • Never engage in ragging, eve-teasing, sexual harassment, or any form of misconduct. Such actions are strictly prohibited and punishable under College and University regulations.
  • Maintain at least 66.66% (two-thirds) attendance separately in lectures, tutorials, and practicals to be eligible for University examinations.
  • Students participating in sports at state, national, or international levels must also fulfil the minimum attendance requirements as per University rules.
  • Attend College functions such as Annual Cultural Festival, Sports Day, Annual Day, NCC Day (for NCC cadets), NSS Day (for NSS volunteers), and other important events.
  • Obtain attendance clearance from the College before appearing for University examinations.
  • Inform the Principal/Teacher-in-Charge in writing if unable to attend classes for more than four consecutive weeks, failing which the student’s name may be struck off the College rolls.
  • In case of illness, a medical certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner, duly signed by a parent and countersigned by the concerned teacher, must be submitted within one week of re-joining. A fitness certificate is also required upon resuming classes.
  • Mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited during lectures, tutorials, and academic activities. Any violation will invite disciplinary action.
