About the Department

The Department of Physics at Sri Aurobindo College was established in 1992 with the introduction of the B.Sc. (Physical Sciences) course. Since its inception, the department has played a vital role in nurturing scientific temper and curiosity among students. Over the years, it has produced a significant number of alumni who have gone on to become eminent scientists, dedicated teachers, researchers, and professionals excelling in diverse fields.

Located on the top floor of the Red Building, the department provides an inspiring academic environment. It houses two spacious teaching laboratories, fully equipped with essential instruments, experimental setups, and computers, enabling students to complement theoretical learning with hands-on training. These facilities foster practical understanding and skill development, ensuring that students are well-prepared for advanced studies and professional pursuits.

The faculty of the department comprises experienced and dedicated teachers committed to both academic excellence and the holistic development of students. The teaching methodology emphasizes conceptual clarity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Beyond classroom teaching, the department encourages students to engage in seminars, workshops, and projects, cultivating a research-oriented mindset. It strives to create a stimulating environment where scientific inquiry is valued, and knowledge is applied to address real-world challenges.

With its commitment to quality education, research, and innovation, the Department of Physics continues to be a cornerstone of Sri Aurobindo College, contributing to the growth of science and the development of future leaders in academia, industry, and society.
