About the Department

Established in 1972, the Department of Economics at Sri Aurobindo College has been an integral part of the institution since its inception. Known for its academic excellence and vibrant intellectual culture, the department offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary learning environment. It is supported by a team of 11 dedicated faculty members who actively engage in teaching, research, mentoring, and college development.

Economics is a popular subject among students from Commerce and Humanities streams, and with the introduction of the NEP UGCF system, it is now also accessible to Science students. The curriculum covers core subjects such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Indian Economy, along with a range of Skill Enhancement Courses like Union Budget Analysis, Research Methodology, and Data Analysis—ensuring both theoretical depth and practical insight.The department promotes critical thinking, research aptitude, and real-world application through seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions.

With a commitment to academic rigor, interdisciplinary growth, and holistic student development, the Department of Economics continues to shape socially responsible and analytically equipped graduates ready to contribute meaningfully to society and the global economy.
