Established in 1990, the Department of Chemistry has been a cornerstone of academic excellence at the college, committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering cutting-edge research in the field of chemistry. From its modest beginnings in the old building, the department has grown into one of the most prestigious and dynamic science departments of the institution.
The department currently offers two undergraduate programmes — B.Sc. Physical Sciences and B.Sc. Life Sciences — designed to provide students with a strong foundation in chemical sciences along with practical skills for diverse career pathways.
With a team of 12 dedicated faculty members, comprising 6 Professors and 6 Assistant Professors, and supported by 6 highly skilled laboratory staff, the department prides itself on its blend of academic expertise and technical proficiency. Our two state-of-the-art laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments to facilitate hands-on training, innovative experiments, and research-oriented learning.
The faculty are not only acclaimed educators but also active researchers with numerous publications, research projects, and collaborations to their credit. Notably, Prof. Pramod Kumar serves as the Coordinator of the Environment and Sustainable Resource Management Subject Expert Group (SEG) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, the flagship programme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Through its unwavering dedication to academic rigor, innovation, and societal contribution, the Department of Chemistry continues to inspire and empower the scientists of tomorrow.

The Department of Chemistry has implemented several capacity building initiatives to enhance the skill of students. A number of Skill enhancement courses have been offered by the Department of Chemistry which helps students to improve their skills. The Department organizes educational trips to various industries which provide students a knowledge of real world application of chemistry. These trips help the students to understand industrial processes and explore career opportunities.
We have a Mentor-Mentee program where faculty members interact with students and help them to set goals, develop career plans and overcome challenges in daily life. Also, the Department organizes the career counseling sessions at regular intervals to provide insights into the job market.
